Alien - This is a must see for sci-fi and horror fans. The first time you see that alien burst from that guy's chest it's something that sticks in your mind. It is definitely a good movie.
Aliens - This is the movie most, including myself, consider to be the best in the Alien quadrilogy. I highly recommend it.
Alien 3 - This is my least favorite of the Alien movies. Ripley lands on an all male penal colony with a bunch of men who haven't seen a woman in god knows how long. I apologize in advance for giving away the end but no one wants to see Ripley die.
Alien Resurrection - Ripley is cloned by the military because they want to harvest the alien inside her and use it as a weapon. Of course that turns out to be a very bad idea. It is my second favorite of the Alien movies after Aliens. Definitely worth a look.
Alien vs Predator - This movie is what the title implies aliens and predators fighting. Predators must hunt aliens to prove themeselves. But when those pesky humans take their guns, can they do it? If you liked either the Alien or Predator series you'll like this. It is interesting. The way it ends you would expect a sequel but no word yet.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) - This is just a great movie. Johnny Depp is wonderful as Willy Wonka and Freddie Highmore is adorable as Charlie. This movie is beautiful to look at though. It also has a lot of catchy songs. I have seen it a lot of times and it never gets old. I highly recommend it if you liked the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Some people seem to have a problem with the Oompa Loompas in this version though. I think Deep Roy did a great job being all the Oompa Loompas.
The Devil's Advocate - A Florida lawyer, played by Keanu Reeves, always wins his case. He is moved to New York and finds out his father is the devil, played by Al Pacino. This is one of my favorite movies. It is definitely a very grown-up movie. Al Pacino makes a great Devil.
The Island (2005) - In the future you can pay $5 million to have a clone made of you so if you get sick and need spare parts you got them. I thought the movie was interesting. There was a lot of cool stunts. It also didn't hurt that Ewan McGregor is one of my favorite actors (see My Favorite Things)
John Tucker Must Die - Three girls find out they are all dating the same guy and decide to get revenge. They decide the best way to do this is to bring a fourth girl in to break his heart. It was better than I expected. It had a few funny moments.
Just Like Heaven (2005) - This is a really sweet movie. I didn't think I would like it at first but I found myself caught up in it.
The Libertine (2005) - This is a very adult movie. Johnny Depp stars as John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester. He is not the most lovable guy. He has an affair with and actress named Elizabeth Barry and writes a very naughty play for the king of England and is banished for it. He ends up dying at the age of 30. It is not a very happy movie but I almost consider it a guilty pleasure.
Night at the Museum - This was an ok movie. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be but it was ok. Ben Stiller plays Larry a divorcee who seems to be struggling with holding a job. He is worried he will disappoint his son. He ends up getting a job as the night watchman at a museum where a tablet brings the inhabitants to life every night. The movie is about how Larry must teach the inhabitants of the museum, which includes a T-Rex that likes to play fetch and Attila the Hun, to get along.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) - Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom on the same screen, what more could a girl ask for? But this movie has more than eye candy. There is plenty of sword fighting and zombies to entertain those of us who like action. Even if you don't think pirates are very interesting I would still give it a try because I thought the same thing.
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest (2006) - I know most critics have been very tough on this movie, but I liked it. It is more grown up than the first with the addition of Davey Jones and his crew of cursed men who seem to be being absorbed by Jones' ship, The Flying Dutchman. It is revealed in this movie that Captain Jack Sparrow sold his soul to Davey Jones in order to be captain of the Black Pearl for 13 years. Well, now Jones has come to collect his due. How will dear old Jack get out of this one? You'll just have to watch for yourself.
Secret Window (2004) - The moral of this movie is don't cheat on your spouse. Based on a short story by Stephen King, this thriller will keep you guessing. This is another wonderful performance from Johnny Depp. He plays Mort Rainey a writer with serious issues. I don't want to ruin the ending but it's a good movie as well and worth watching.
Sleepy Hollow (1999) - The headless horseman has risen from the grave yet again to chop heads. Constable Ichabod Crane is sent from New York to investigate. The locals are all convinced it is the Headless Horseman but Ichabod is not so sure. Depp plays a very feminine Ichabod. He faints five times in the movie, I counted, and refuses to kill a spider and makes a little boy kill it. Depp's performance is very interesting and adds some comic relief to the movie. It is very well made and worth a look if you haven't seen it.
Spider-Man (2002) - A very worthy remake of the comic. This is one of the rare instances where I like the second movie better. The original is still good and worth a look.
Spider-Man 2 (2004) - This is a very good movie. I don't think they could have found a better Doc Ock. I highly recommend it, especially if you like the comic books.
